Dr. Henry Okpa is a senior lecturer in the department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Calabar and a consultant nephrologist, Renal Unit, department of Internal Medicine, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar. Both institutions are located in Cross River state, South – South region of Nigeria.
Dr Henry Okpa’s usual academic activities include didactic lectures and tutorials for clinical medical students in the classroom, ward rounds teaching and bedside clinical skills teaching / demonstration for medical students, moderating patients clerking and presentations by medical students, organizing seminars for medical students and conducting both theory and clinical examinations for medical students.
He has special interest in renal transplantation programme, with particular emphasis onimmunosuppressive (post-transplant) medications, post-transplant infections and anti- rejection strategies.
His other areas of interest include research in chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury and haemodialysis.
The other activities are day to day running of the dialysis unit, training and supervision of house physicians, resident doctors, and teaching of nurses in clinics and ward rounds.
Some of his supervisory roles include supervision of dissertation of specialist senior resident doctors (postgraduate) in nephrology, moderating and supervisingpostgraduate seminar presentations and conducting clinical research in the field of medicine.
