About Prof. Godfrey Akpan Iwo
Professor Godfrey Akpan Iwo is an experienced Lecturer and an industry-oriented Researcher with specialization in Plant Breeding and Cytogenetics. Through dedicated, committed and collaborative scientific research efforts, he has developed and released five (5) elite varieties of Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) and fifteen (15) mutant lines of Ginger (Zingiber officinales) with high oleorosine contents. He has also successfully characterized the existing sugarcane genotypes in Nigeria. Other crops worked on includes, rice, sorghum, cucumber and soybean. He has served the University at different capacities as the Head, Department of Crop Science, academic adviser to Undergraduates and Supervisor and Co-Supervisor to 12 PhD and 8 MSc postgraduates.
