About Dr. Essien Ekpenyong Essien

Dr Essien Ekpenyong Essien became a staff of University of Calabar on 17th December 2013 on transferred of service from Akwa Ibom State college of Education Afaha Nsit as a lecturer 1. He holds (N.C.E) in History/Social Studies, Bachelor of Art in Education (B.AEd) in his History Education, Master’s Degree in Social Studies Education (M.Ed), and Doctor of Philosophy in Social Studies Education (Ph.D). He is a member of Social Studies Association of Nigeria (SOSAN), Member of Social Studies and Civic Educators Association of Nigeria (SOSCEAN), Member of Curriculum Organization of Nigeria (CON), Member of Social Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (SOSTAN) and Teacher’s Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Secretary committee for the design of CES Programme in the Department of Social Science Education 2016. Departmental Examination officer NUC 2015-2017, Acting Head of Department of Social Science Education 2017 to January 2019, and hosted the 33rd Annual International Conference of the Social Studies and Civic Educators’ Association of Nigeria (SOSCEAN) 6th to 9th August, 2018 for the first time since the inception of the university where he served as a member of the local organizing committee. Floated International Journal of Contemporary Social Science Education, vol. 1 (1&2) in 2018 as Editor in chief which could be viewed online, Member Faculty of Education Curriculum Review Committee 2019. Member Faculty of Education Publication/Editorial Board 2019, Member Faculty of Education Accreditation Committee 2019, Member Graduate Vetting Board 2019. He has attended many seminars, workshops and conferences locally and presented papers. He has published in international and local journals and book chapters. From the wealth of his experience he has mentored many undergraduate and graduate students.
