About Dr. Ekpereonne Babatunde Esu

Dr Ekpereonne Babatunde Esu is a lecturer in the Epidemiology unit of the Department of Public Health, University of Calabar. Dr Esu has a first degree in Zoology from the University of Ghana, Legon, MSc. degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, London, and a PhD in International Health from Ludwig Maximilians University, Munich, Germany. He has expertise in study design and use of epidemiological methods to inform interventions aimed at reducing the burden of infectious diseases. He has over a decade’s worth of experience in the conduct of systematic reviews and clinical trials. Dr Esu has authored several publications in infectious diseases, sexual and reproductive health, and maternal and child health. Dr Esu is a member of the Epidemiological Society of Nigeria (EPISON) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health and a Life member of the International Epidemiological Association (IEA). He is also a member International Society for Evidence-Based Healthcare, member, International Society for Infectious Diseases, member, London International Development Centre, member, Cochrane Fertility Regulation Group, member Cochrane Infectious Diseases group and an Associate Member, Global Health Council. Dr. Esu is the recipient of the Kenneth Warren Prize (2008) for his publication ‘Chemoprophylaxis and intermittent treatment for preventing malaria in children’. His research focuses on infectious diseases, knowledge translation, and facilitating evidence-based health care. He is happily married with children.
