EmailDr (Mrs.) Abigail Edem Okon is a lecturer in Department of Educational Foundations, University of Calabar, Calabar, Nigeria. She attended Edgerly Memorial Girls’ Secondary School, Calabar and obtained the West African School Certificate. She later graduated with B.Sc. (Ed) and M.Ed. degrees in Educational Psychology from the University of Calabar, Calabar 1998 and 2003 respectively. Dr Okon obtained her P.hD. degree in Educational Psychology from University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria in 2009. She joined the services of the University of Calabar in 2007 as Assistant Lecturer, and was promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 2016. Since joining the University, she has been teaching, mentoring researching and contribution to the graduation of students in the University. Her major research over the years were focused on Parental and community involvement as correlate of academic performance in senior secondary school in Calabar South; Counselling and academic performance among secondary school students in Cross River State; Influence of gender and employment status on the scarcity of marriageable men among postgraduate students in some University of South Western Nigeria; among others. Mrs Abigail Okon has successfully supervised and co-supervised students’ theses at various levels including three M.Ed degrees. Dr Okon has published a book titled “Introduction to Psychologyâ€. She has also made contributions to book chapters and finally, published many journal articles in reputable peer reviewed local and international journals. She is a regular participant in many local and international conferences, seminars, symposia and workshops, where she presented papers in some. Abigail is a member of the following Professional bodies Nigerian Society for Educational Psychologist, Counselling Association of Nigeria and Nigerian Society for Psychosocial Research.
