About Prof. Bassey Andian Okon

Professor Bassey Andian Okon obtained her B.A (Hons) English from University of Maiduguri in 1983. She earned her M.A in English & Literary Studies UNICAL. M.A Linguistics UNIPORT, Ph.D Sociolinguistics from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan. She took up a teaching appointment with the University of Calabar as a Graduate Assistant at the centre for General Studies. From there, she was posted to the Department of Linguistics where she rose to the rank of a Professor. She has served the Department in different capacities. She has been an Examination Officers both at the Undergraduate and Post graduate levels. Chairman to the Postgraduate Board of the Department. Co-ordinator of the Use of English. The Acting Head of Department and convener of the Association of Nigerian Languages Teachers (ANLAT) 2005. She won the Hans Rausing Award on Endangered Languages Documentation Programme – ELDP in 2011.
