About Mr. Anthony Uchenna Emeribe

Anthony Uchenna Emeribe was awarded a B.MLS. (Hons.) degree in Medical Laboratory Science (Chemical Pathology) by the University of Calabar in 2012 and M.Sc. degree in Molecular Medicine (Experimental Medicine) by the University of Sheffield in 2016. He holds a certificate in Advanced Bioinformatics from the African Bioinformatics Training Institute, Ibadan, Nigeria. He join the services of the University of Calabar in 2014 as an Assistant Lecturer and was promoted to Lecturer 2 in 2016. Before joining the University Community, he worked with the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, Abuja (Intern Medical Laboratory Scientist), Asokoro District Hospital, Asokoro, Abuja (Medical Laboratory Scientist 1), and Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Abuja (Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist). Since joining the University, he has been lecturing, mentoring and contributing to the graduation of Students in the University. He has successfully supervised two undergraduate Students. His major research areas spans across cell signaling, viral pathogenesis, immunology, metabolic and hematological disorders, molecular mechanisms of immune cell activation and antimicrobial immune responses. Emeribe has served as Academic Adviser to undergraduate Students and involved in the Departmental screening and registration of first year undergraduate Students. He has also served the University as Secretary, Adhoc Electoral Committee, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), UNICAL chapter (April-July, 2019). He has authored/coauthored over twenty peer reviewed journal articles published both in local and foreign peer reviewed journals. He has actively participated and presented papers in over 10 scientific meetings and conferences as well as organized several workshops and seminars. Emeribe is a beneficiary of the Presidential intervention fund (NEEDS assessment) that took him to the University of Sheffield for his M.Sc. degree (2015-2016). Emeribe also received a travel grant to participate at the 19th International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA 2017) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire form 4th to 9th December 2017. He is also a recipient of several awards including the icon award (2019) and award of recognition (2019) from the CYON of St. Peter’s Parish, Ediba and St. Bernard’s Parish, Marian Hill, Calabar, respectively for his contributions to the Church and Society. Other awards include the State Honor’s award by National Youth Service Corps, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja for outstanding capital community development services (2012-2013); best Intern Medical Laboratory Scientist (2013) by the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), UATH Chapter; award for efforts in improving students’ academic performance (2012) by the Nigerian Medical Laboratory Science Students’ Association (NIMELSSA), UNICAL Chapter; and award for best in NIMELSSA Mock Examination (2009) by the Nigerian Medical Laboratory Science Students’ Association (NIMELSSA), UNICAL Chapter. He is a member of several learned societies which include Association of Clinical Chemists of Nigeria, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Federation of African Associations of Medical Laboratory Scientists, and African Society for Laboratory Medicine.
