About Dr. Inimbom James Akpan

Dr. (Mrs) Inimbom James Akpan joined the academic board of the Department of Languages and Linguistics, later renamed Linguistics and Communication Studies, but now Linguistics and Nigerian Languages on 28th February 1988 as Graduate Assistant and rose through the ranks to Associate Professor in 2014. Her papers for Professorship is awaiting external Assessment. She holds a B.A Linguistics 1987, University of Calabar, M.A 1993 University of Port Harcourt, Ph.D 2002, University of Calabar. She benefited from the Association of African Universities Small Scale Award as well as the Unical Staff Fellowship Award. She has taught several courses from the time of Diploma through undergraduate and Post Graduate courses. She has successfully supervised six Masters and six Ph.D Thesis and Dissertations. She has attended several conferences locally and internationally. She has published reputable journal articles locally and internationally and has written two books in Linguistics and Communication. On going research include the following; Ibibiod Place Names: A factor in community development. On going Linguistic Change in the lower Cross; A reconstruction of Ibibiod obstruents; Towards a data sheet for Cross River Languages; and Pronominal Selectional Rules in Ejagham.
