About Dr. Mary Juliana Ada

Rev. Sr. (Dr) Mary Juliana Ada (HHCJ) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Planning, Faculty of Education, University of Calabar, Calabar. She holds a BA (Hons) degree in History and Archeology (1976), PGD in Education (1981), M.Ed (1989) and Ph.D (1999) degrees in Educational Administration and Planning from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Dr Ada is not only a seasoned academics, an astute administrator, a world-class teacher, a mentor of many mentees, a counselor, a first class disciplinarian but also a rare model of discipline personified. Sr. Ada worked for the Government of Cross River State meritoriously from 1977 to 2015 and her outstanding performance earned her various teaching and administrative responsibilities that include Principal, Holy Child Secondary School, Ogoja, Girls’ Secondary School, Obudu and Dean, School of Education, Cross River State College of Education, Akamkpa. She was the first female Provost of the Cross River State College of Education, Akamkpa between 1996 and 2000. Sr. Ada left the service of the Cross River State Government in 2015 and joined the University of Calabar as an Associate Professor in the Department of Education Administration and Planning in 2016. She has been serving the University diligently as a lecturer, examiner, researcher, project and thesis supervisor among other duties. Sr. Ada has supervised and co-supervised many graduate students. Dr Ada has published widely in several local, national and international Journals. She has attended and presented papers at several local, national and international Conferences. Sr Ada is a member of the Catholic Education Board, Archdiocese of Calabar and Chairman, Education Board of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus, South Eastern Province. Through hard work, she has earned for herself several distinguished service awards and honours from various organizations like the Association of Colleges of Education Provost, Foot Prints of top 100 Cross Riverians, the Institute of Teachers in Education and the Catholic Youth Association of the Calabar Archdiocese. Rev. Sr. Ada is a member of different executive, continuing education and professional bodies such as the International Montessori Society, Silver Spring, Maryland U.S.A, Mental Retardation and Developmental Administrator, Washington DC, U.S.A., Women in Colleges of Education, and Association of Religious Women in Nigeria. Sr. Ada is an ardent Christian of the Catholic Faith. She joined the congregation of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus (HHCJ) on February 2, 1969, where she is still fervently and dedicatedly serving God as a Reverend Sister.
