EmailDr. (Mrs) Effiom Veronica Nakanda (Nee Osa Aria) was born on the 24th day of September,1971 to the family of Mr and Mrs Moses Osa Aria in Wula Community in Eastern Boki, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State Nigeria. Dr. (Mrs) V. N. Effiom started her education at St John Primary school Wula in eastern Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State (1972-1982). Her excellent performance in the first School leaving examination, got her admission into secondary commercial school Beteriko, Eastern Boki in Boki Local Government Area in 1982. Her consistent outstanding performance in her school earn her the post of girl’s senior prefect, from 1986 to 1987 and finally graduated in flying colours in 1987. She learn from personal experience in her family the need to be industrious and hardworking having come from the family where love and affection of the father is always in contention. She worked assiduously to save for her education as the need arises, she saw the need to be independent financially, hence in 1989, she joined the services of the then Polytechnic of Calabar, now Cross River State University of Technology (CRUTECH), as a clerical officer/staff. Driven by in born passion to learn and impact lives, and the desire for a more global impact she enrolled in the college of education Akamkpa in 1992-1996 where as usual, obtained a top of the class Nigeria certificate in education (NCE) with 14points on a recorded time that earned her a direct entry admission into university of Calabar, from 1997-1999. Again, driven with passion and intense love to touch many lives as an educationist, excelled excellently, leading to her graduating with a 4.48 CGPA, a second class upper division in Education Religious Studies. In 2002 to 2006, she started and finished her advance studies in social studies education leading to the award of master’s of education (M.Ed) in social studies education. Shortly thereafter, in 2008, she started her Doctor of philosophy in Ebonyi State university Abakaliki, which she successfully completed in 2013. This giant strive brought her dreams to actualisation as a certificated educationalist. Dr. (Mrs) Effiom Veronica Nakanda joined the services of the university of calabar as a graduate assistant in the year 2000 at the Department of Curriculum and Teaching and rose to the rank of senior lecturer in the Department of Social Science Education. She held various responsibilities such as Examination officer /Course Adviser and Coordinator of Educational Technology in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching (the mother of Social Science Education) from 2011-2013. Member, Faculty of Education Teaching Practice Committee. Examination officer/ Course Adviser and Coordinator of Environmental Education from (2013-2015) in Curriculum and Teaching respectively. From 2015-2018, she was again appointed as Undergraduate Project Coordinator in the Department of Social Science Education, departmental welfare chairman (2015-till date). Again in January 2019 she was appointed as the departmental graduate board chairman, the appointment she’s currently serving energetically. Dr. (Mrs) V. N. Effiom has a cordial working relationship with her colleagues and students. She is a mother, mentor and counsellor with burning passion and diligence for service to the University of Calabar. In recognition of her selfless service to humanity, she was given awards of Honour by the student union government of the university of calabar in (2014). Still in 2014, she was nominated and awarded National Academic medal of honour award Afridews Magazine. As if to ice the cake, in (2018) Social Science Education Students Association (SSESA) of university of Calabar honoured her with another award of honour. Effiom, Veronica Nakanda, has researched and published over 30 scholarly articles and still counting, in both international and local peer review journals. She has published three reputable textbooks, six book chapters, and edited three books to her credits. She has attended many local and international conferences and presented well researched papers. She is a member of Curriculum Organisation of Nigeria (CON), World Council of Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI), Social Studies Association of Nigeria (SOSAN) amongst others. Effiom, Veronica Nakanda, is a team player, astute and hardworking, married to her heartthrob Mr. Innocent, Effiom Nakanda, and the marriage is blessed with four wonderful smart children. In words and deeds, Effiom, Veronica Nakanda, is a sister, a wife and a mother with an inert passion for helping, imparting and affecting others positively. Above all, she is a God fearing woman. Effiom Veronica Nakanda has good social and religious affiliations. She has contributed immensely to community development and human empowerment at all levels.
