Prof Mokutima Amarachi Eluwa is an accomplished academic, who began her teaching career in the Department of Human Anatomy at the University of Calabar, Calabar in May 1994, as a Graduate Assistant. She had earlier obtained a B.Sc. (Hons) Anatomy degree from the University of Calabar in 1990. In June 1998, she obtained an M.Sc. degree in Anatomy (Teratology) of the same University and was upgraded to the rank of Assistant Lecturer at the same time. She rose through the ranks and was promoted to the rank of Professor in 2017. She has taught several undergraduate and postgraduate students in B.Sc., MBBS, M.Sc. and Ph.D programmes. She was the examinations officer for B.Sc programmes of the Department of Human Anatomy, University of Calabar from August 2000 to November 2002; Examinations Officer for MBBCh programmes from October 2008 to October 2010; Ag. Head, Department of Human Anatomy, University of Calabar, Calabar; and presently, she is serving as the Chairman, Departmental Graduate Committee with effect from October 2018. In her undergraduate days, Prof Mokutima A. Eluwa was a Federal Government Scholar and the Best Graduating Student, B.Sc. Anatomy Class of 1990. She is a member of several academic bodies including the Neuroscience Society of Nigeria, Anatomical Society of Nigeria, Society of Experimental and Clinical Anatomist of Nigeria, Federation of Associations of African Anatomists, International Brain Research Organisation, International Society for Neurochemistry, Society of Neuroscientists of Africa, The Teratology Society and International Association for Gender Equality. She was the External Examiner for the Department of Anatomy, College of Health Sciences, University of Uyo, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, from 2011 to 2016. She also served as the External Examiner for the B.Sc Anatomy programme in the Department of Human Anatomy and Forensic Anthropology, Cross River State University of Technology, Calabar between 2017 to 2019. Finally, Prof. Eluwa is serving as External Examiner to the PAMO University of Medical Sciences, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria from 2019 to date. She was a member of the Resource Verification Team of the National Universities Commission which visited Baze University, Abuja in December 2019. Prof M. A. Eluwa has attended more than 23 local and international conferences where she presented papers and made other useful contributions. She has more than 70 scholarly journal papers published in both local and International Journals. She had taken part in the organization of scientific conferences held in her Department in different capacities as a member of the local organizing committee and Chairman. Local Organising Committee. She has also served the University of Calabar in other capacities including member, University of Calabar Research Africa Granting Platform (2012 – 2014) and member, University of Calabar Wide Health Talk on the Wellness Programme (2013) among others. Prof Mokutima Amarachi Eluwa has been a reviewer of many journals. Prof Eluwa has co-authored two books namely; ‘The History of Anatomy’ and ‘Questions and Answers in Anatomy’. She is happily married to Mr. Ukachi N. Eluwa and they have two adult children.
