Prof. Mbey E. Nja, Fellow, Royal Statistical Society, London, a Nigerian citizen from Cross River State holds the following academic qualifications. He is a member, Academic Board, National Mathematical Centre, Abuja. He holds a B.Sc. (Maths, Jos, 1986), M.Sc. (Stat, Calabar, 1999), Ph.D. (Stat, Ibadan, 2007) and MBA (Calabar, 1993) degrees. He is a member, Nigerian Statistical Association, member International Biometric Society and ex 2nd Vice President, Nigeria Statistical Society. Prof. Nja participated in the UNESCO Bamako Cluster Office 4th International Conference on Quality Assurance in Higher Education in Africa, Bamako, Mali (2010) where he presented the paper “Towards Improved Teaching Effectiveness in Nigerian Public Universitiesâ€: Instrument Design and Validation. He has also presented conference papers in Ghana (2007), UK (2007), Kenya (2008), Brazil (2010), USA (2013) and USA (2014), besides papers presented in Nigeria. He has accessed several grants/scholarships to include J. H. West grant (United Kingdom) to present a paper at the 2007 Conference of the Royal Statistical Society, London, Jolly Phonics (United Kingdom) research grant (2015), Oregon Health and Science University grant (2014) to present an invited lecture titled statistical training in Nigeria. TeTFund Conference grant (2014) to present a paper at the 3rd OMICS Biometrics and Biostatistics Conference in Maryland, USA, TeTFund Conference grant (2010) to attend the 2010 Conference of the International Biometric Society in Brazil, Cross River State Government scholarship award for Ph.D. in Mathematics, Russia (2004) (not taken), Cross River State Government Distinction scholarship for Secondary School Education (1973-1978). Prof. Nja has thirty-five (35) publications in both international and local reputable peer reviewed journals. He has visited more than fifteen countries and is currently participating in the UK-based Jolly Phonics Reading and Writing Skill Research of the Universal Learning Solutions. In 2013, he was co-author of the lead paper of the annual conference of the Nigeria Statistical Association. Prof. Nja has successfully supervised and co-supervised four Ph.Ds and four M.Scs theses, and several B.Sc. projects. He is currently supervising two Ph.D., three M.Sc. and four B.Sc. students. He has examined several Ph.D. theses as external examiner in several Universities, and has served as Chairman/Member in several NUC (National Universities Commission) accreditation teams covering almost all the six geopolitical zones in the country. In his university teaching and administrative experience, he held several positions including Member, Governing Council, Cross River University of Technology, Calabar (2007-2012); Member, Governing Council, Federal University Lafia (2015); Dean (Science) and Chairman, Committee of Deans, Cross River University of Technology, Calabar, (2007-2009); Chairman, Senate Results Vetting Committee, Cross River University of Technology, Calabar (2009-2012) and Chairman, Senate Results Vetting Committee, Federal University Lafia (2013-2016). Others are Director of Academic Planning, Cross River University of Technology, Calabar (2009-2012), Head of Department of Mathematics, Cross River University of Technology, Calabar (2002-2007) and Head of Department of Mathematics, Federal University Lafia (2012-2016). Outside the Universities, he has served as Member, Cross River State Science and Technical Education Board (1997-2000). Director, Institute of Learning and Skill Development Ltd/Gte, United Kingdom (2015) and Academic Team Leader, Universal Learning Solutions (2015). Furthermore, he served as Member, Award Funds Committee, International Biometrics Society (2010-2012), Assistant Secretary, Committee of Directors of Academic Planning of Nigerian Universities (2011-2012), Editor, Cross River State Government Books on Further Mathematics (Books 1, 2 & 3, 2008), State Consultant, Cross River State Education Sector 10-Year Strategic Plan (2010) and so on. He is presently serving as Academic Board Member, National Mathematical Centre, Abuja, His area of specialization is Experimental Design where he has researched extensively on Generalized Linear Models and in the process designed the general nth-Order Jackknife Ridge Estimator for Linear Regression Models. Prof. Nja is also currently carrying out research in the following areas (i) Log Logistics Regression with Censored Data using Pseudo Observations (ii) A statistical Analysis of the Jolly Phonics and the Conventional Teaching Methods for Reading and Writing Skills in Nigerian Primary School system. A two-time Jerusalem Pilgrim, Prof. Nja has visited the Vatican City, and is married with children.
