About Dr. Matthew Abua Ebim

Dr. Matthew Abua Ebim attended St Peter’s Primary School, Ojirim Mbube East Ogoja Cross River State from 1986 to 1992. He then proceeded to Mbube East Secondary School Oboso, Ogoja Cross River State between 1994-1999. In 2000, he sat for the Joint Matriculations Examination Board (JAMB) and in 2001 he was admitted into the University of Calabar where he graduated with a B.A (Hons) Degree in English & Literary Studies in 2005. He then proceeded to Government Secondary School in Oke-Oyan, Omuran Local Government Area of Kwara State in 2006 for the one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps, NYSC. On his return from Youth Service in 2007, he secured a job with Channels Television in Lagos as a Production Editor. He progressed in journalism, working as a Reportorial, Editorial, and Production Staff. Having spent five years with Channels TV, he secured a lecturing job with Yaba College of Technology in 2012; first as a part-time lecturer and after two years, he got converted as a full-time lecturer. Due to his passion for the lecturing profession, he picked up appointments with Christopher University Mowe Ogun State, Centre for Management Research (EMAR), a research-based institute affiliated to the University of Ibadan, where he taught MBA & PGD courses to private sector players, private researchers and others. He was also a Part-Time lecturer to the Lagos Campus of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye Ogun State. In 2010, He enrolled for a master's degree (M.A) in English at the University of Lagos specializing in Linguistic stylistics. After the M.A program, he then enrolled in a Ph. D program at the same University of Lagos with his Ph.D. thesis focusing on Media Representation of Insurgency and Militancy: the two groups: Niger Delta Militants (NDM) and Boko Haram (BH) where critically examined in the thesis from the perspectives of representation, signification, Ideological Depictions and Metaphoric Coding as depicted in the Print Media. Dr. Mathew Ebim has reviewed and continues to review papers for publishing outfits both locally and internationally and he has also attended both local and foreign conferences. He has successfully organized conferences while lecturing at Yaba College of Technology. He was the chairman of the maiden edition of the Nigeria Ecolinguistics Association Conference, an association he co-founded. He co-edited the 1,200 paged festschrift entitled Language and Literary Studies in Society a Festschrift in Honour of Professor Eno Grace Nta of the Department of English and Literary Studies University of Calabar. Dr. Mathew Ebim’s Ph. D thesis has been converted to a textbook and he has published two books to his credit: Advanced English Composition for Tertiary Institutions and Advanced Business Communication Both Published by Terry Publishers, Lagos State. While carrying out his Ph.D. program, Mathew Ebim was appointed by the Research Unit of the University of Lagos to be a part of a team that carried out two kinds of research entitled: “Cross-Cultural Discourse Study of Urban Inter-Group Relations”, Central Research Committee, the University of Lagos funded research project (Assistant Researcher to Professor Augustine Nwagbara & Professor Mike Ogbeide). “Reliving History, Recounting Experience: A Discourse Study of Modern Reactions to Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and Slavery in West Africa” Central Research Committee, the University of Lagos funded research project (Assistant Researcher to Professor Augustine Nwagbara & Associate Professor Ayo Yusuf). The grants assisted him immensely, both intellectually and financially in his Ph.D. work. Dr. Mathew Ebim belongs to the following professional organizations: International Ecolinguistics Association, Nigeria Ecolinguistics Association, English Scholars Association of Nigeria, Pragmatics Association of Nigeria, Linguistics Association of Ghana, and Linguistics Association of Nigeria. He has published in both local and foreign journals in his areas of interest. Some of his publications are:
