Mr. Mathias Agba, is a strategic thinker, collaborator, self-driven, dependable, intellectual thinker, proactive, and a hardworking young man who has acquired knowledge and experience in the course of his study. Besides being mentally and physically stable, he is amenable to leadership and accepts responsibility promptly and willingly. Having vouched for his academic competency and character with a passion for promoting and maintaining excellence in Mental health and psychiatric nursing education and clinical practice. He is overtime gain experience as a nurse clinician, mental health educator, researcher, and organized leader. He is committed to professional development with brilliant renovations and values added to nursing care. He specialized in the elimination of stigmatization, frequent admission of clients with mental disorders, relapse prevention, drugs adherence, drugs cassation, and promoting the maintenance of good mental health, and advocating to restore the dignity of the mentally ill through creating a positive learning and teaching environment and focus activities.Mr. Mathias Agba is a staff of the Department of Nursing Science; join the University of Calabar after voluntary retirement from Cross River State Ministry of Health in 2018. After joining the department in 2018 as a result of his hard work, commitment, and dedication he was appointed Departmental time-table officer, examination officer for 100 Level both UME and D/E, Member Departmental disciplinary committee, Member Quality assurance committee, member induction committee, Member Departmental Accreditation committee and Secretary Curriculum development for M.sc and Ph.D. mental and psychiatric nursing. These positions have allowed him to gain expertise and contribute to the development of the nursing profession through his intellectual capacity and provide mentorship to students. Mr. Agba was born in Ushara- Gakem town in Bekwarra Local Govt. Area of Cross River State and raised both Cross River State and Benue state, although her parent is from Gakem town in Bekwarra Local Govt. area of Cross River State. He attended his primary school in St. Mark Primary School Gakem and Junior secondary school in Comprehensive Secondary school Gakem, then proceeded to Government Secondary school Zaki-Ibim Benue State and obtained SSCE in 1998. He obtained RN Certificate from the School of Nursing Itigidi in 2004; He received B.N.Sc (Hons) Second Class Upper from the University of Calabar in 2012, His desire in promoting and maintaining good positive mental health; he obtained M.Sc mental health and psychiatric nursing from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu Campus in 2017. He also obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the University of Calabar in 2016 and a Diploma in Mental Health and Psychiatric nursing from the school of mental health and psychiatric nursing Calabar in 2012. Mr. Agba has attended and made oral presentations / moderated sessions in over 8 professional conferences /workshops. He presented over 4 papers in Mandatory Contentious Professional Development Programs (MCPDP) for nurses in specialized areas in mental health and psychiatric nursing. He has published much research works in international journals with high impact factors. Mr. Agba has applied for study grants to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and is receiving promising attention due to his outstanding research and the benefit of the research to the University of Calabar and society in general. Mr. Agba supervised over 100 undergraduate students and guided many successful post Graduate Students in various research studies. He is an external examiner to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Akwa, and College of Nursing Ikot Ekpene in the Final qualifying examination for General nursing and Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria scripts marker. Agba is a member of many national organizations including Academic Staff Union Universities (ASUU), National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), National Association of Nigerian Psychiatric Nurses (NAPN), National Association of Nurse Educators. And the University Graduate of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA). Mathias Agba is happily married to a seasoned Midwives and a Graduate Nurse of no mean repute Mrs. Agba, Affiong Mathias of Medical Centre 305 Mobility group, Nigerian Airforce Headquarters Calabar, Cross River State. The Union is blessed by one child and many more on the way coming. He is a member of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Headquarters region II Atimbo Road Calabar.
