DepartmentPure and Applied Chemistry
DesignationAssistant Lecturer
EmailMr Joseph Ogar became a member of the academic staff of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, University of Calabar in 2013 after graduating from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka with a B.Sc degree in Pure and Industrial Chemistry in 2010. He was awarded M.Sc. degree in Inorganic Chemistry in 2016. In his quest for further academic progress, he joined Professor Neil Champness’ Group at the University of Nottingham in 2017 where he is currently studying for his PhD. Joseph is a recipient of many scholarship awards. Some of the awards include the prestigious Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) foreign PhD scholarship, PTDF MSc Local Scholarship, Cross River State Undergraduate Scholarship, Tabitha David Care Scholarship for indigent student, Yala Women in Calabar Secondary School Scholarship, among others. He has attended a number of local and international conferences where he has presented scholarly posters/papers. The conferences include Chemical Society of Nigeria (2014); British Crystallogrphic Association Spring Meeting 2019 – Nottingham, United Kingdom; Macrocyclic and Supramlecuar Chemistry Early Career Reseachers Conference 2019 – Lincoln, United Kingdom; Post-Graduate Research Conference 2019 – School of Chemistry, University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. His research interests include, but not limited to; the synthesis of novel naphthalene/perylene diimides, and employing same in the synthesis of redox-active porous open framework materials and investigating the host-guest chemistry of the materials. Joseph became a member of the Chemical Society of Nigeriain 2015 and has recently been enrolled as an Associate Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, United Kingdom. He has published scholarly articles in reputable journals such as International Journal of Physical Sciences, International Journal of Innovative Research in Science & Engineering; and the International Journal of Science &Technolege.
