About Dr. Chiaka Patience Denwigwe

Dr. Chiaka Patience Denwigwe started her career as a teacher in the Rivers State Secondary Education Board in 1985. She later transferred her services to the Federal Capital Territory Education Board in 1998. Dr Denwigwe later moved to the FCT College of Education, Zuba in 2012 as a Senior Lecturer where she rose to the position of Principal Lecturer in 2015. Finally, she moved her services to the Department of Guidance and Counselling in the University of Calabar, Cross River State in 2016 as Senior Lecturer. Dr Chiaka Patience was with University of Nigeria Nsukka between 1980 and 1983 where she was awarded B.Sc. degree in Zoology in 1983. She obtained her Postgraduate Diploma Certificate n Education and M.Ed degree in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria in 1986 and 1990 respectively. She was awarded Ph.D degree in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Abuja, Nigeria in 2006. Her main research areas are educational Counselling and personal-social Counselling. In all the institutions that she has served, she has been teaching, researching and mentoring students at all levels. Dr Denwigwe is a professional Guidance Counsellor with science background, and a member of Science Teachers’ Association of Nigeria, Counselling Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Environmental Society, Nigerian Institute of Management and Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria. She is s recipient of many awards including an award for proficiency in Science by Science Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (FCT Chapter) in 2002, most Creative Officer in the FCT Education Resource Centre (2005), award for successfully piloting the Education and Information Technology Division of the FCT Education Resource Centre in 2006 and many others. She has published over thirty articles in local and international peer reviewed journals. She has attended many national and international conferences where she presented well- researched papers in some. S She was the Managing Editor of the F.C.T. Journal of Curriculum Studies and Instruction. She has also published some textbooks including ‘Fundamentals of Guidance and Counselling: An Educational Approach’. She has served as a member of the FCT Monitoring Team on National Council on Education Decisions, member of the writing team for the Child-friendly schools’ manual for In-service Teachers and Education Resource Centre Personnel, and the general coordinator for FCT Education Resource Centre Instructional-material based Professional Learning Community. She is currently serving as the Graduate Committee Chairperson for the Department of Guidance and Counselling, University of Calabar, Nigeria. Chiaka is a team player and has a passion for helping others.
