EmailDr. Blessing Anam was born on the 10th day in the month of October, in Nigeria. She is a Senior Lecturer of Human Kinetics and Health Education, Faculty of Education, University of Calabar; a specialist in Sports Administration (M.Ed), and Recreation and Tourism Education (Ph.D; 1st in Nigeria). Her Ph.D Thesis is the first to be recommended to the Government of Cross River State, as a blue print towards a re-birth in tourism sector of the State. She joined the teaching service with the University, as a Faculty staff in 1998, in Physical and Health Education Unit in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching, and in the Department of Vocational and Special Education, respectively. Due to her hard work and fairness to her students, she was appointed the Coordinator/Examination Officer of the Unit in 2008. Blessing is one of the pioneer staff of the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education in 2010. She obtained her teaching profession certificates through Teacher Training College (TC11 - Calabar), National Education (NCE - Obudu LGA), Bachelor of Education (B.Ed – UNICAL; Best graduating student, in Physical and Health Education, 1997), Masters Degree (M.Ed -UNILAG) and Ph.D (UNICAL). Blessing is an educationist to the core. As an erudite scholar, she has graduated thousands of students both within the University and outside. She has contributed to the progress of the department/faculty in various capacities; such include: Chairman Staff Welfare/Faculty Rep. (2013-2018), Year 2 students’ Academic adviser (2013-2017). Project Coordinator/Faculty- Member (2014-2018), Teaching Practice Rep./Faculty Member (2014-2018), Sandwich Programme Examination Officer (2018). She has also served as adviser to the departmental students’ union on sports matters. Through her advice, the students had their maiden NAPHER.SD Sports Week, where she donated “Over-All Winner’s Trophy†to the students to grace the event in 2014. Faculty of Education Staff Sports Coordinator (2012- 2015); which she led the contingents to a victory of no good 2nd during 2014 year edition of the staff interfaculty games. Because of her quest in sports/recreation and her career, Blessing formed a five (5) man basket ball team against twelve (12) players’ teams, at all Nigerian Universities Staff Games in UNIBEN and won a Silver Medal for UNICAL. Faculty Rep. to Institute of Oceanography (2012-2014), Rep. to Faculty of Agriculture (2014-2018). Member- Faculty Fitness and Wellness Committee (2014-2016), Member- Faculty AIT - Dancing Troop (2014-2016). Moderator undergraduate project topics for FCE-Obudu/Katsina Ala (2015-Date) and also she was one of the pioneers External Examiner for FCE – Obudu, undergraduate project defense. By the grace of God Dr. Blessing Anam was duly appointed the Ag. Head of the Department on January 1st 2019. Blessing has been involved in organizing and attending conferences, workshops, seminars and clinics in academic work, sports and in other life endeavours, locally and internationally (Ghana, Kenya) where she presented scholarly papers. She is the author of 3 health books for primary 5 pupils in Cross River State (2008- monograph) and 1 chapter in book and has several other publications and also Accessor of articles for publication. She belongs to several learned societies, professional bodies and NGOs. These among others are: Member of National Association of Athletics Technical Officials (NAATO – 2005-Date), member of Nigerian Association of Physical Education, Health, Recreation, Sports & Dance (NAPHER-SD) at State level, Regional, National and International (ICHPER.SD). In this respect, she occupy the offices of Vice Chairman-Cross River State Chapter (2008- 2016) and Vice Chairman-1/Southern Senatorial Coordinator CRS (2017-Date), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) – FRN- Member (2016-Date), World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI)-Member (2018-Date), African Sport Management Association (ASMA) – Member (2019) and Member – NAWAC. Dr. Blessing Anam also have passion in humanitarian services, such as;- Health Reformation of Nigeria (HERFON) CRS Chapter-2005-Date, ST. Monica Foundation (Rehab Teen-M; an NGO - PRO), International Chaplains Inc. (INTERCORPS – an NGO), CRS Command (Welfare Officer 2008-2010), Special Marshal Cross River State Command (Governor, 2019-Batch), etc. Based on her interest for her Alma-mata, she was appointed the Financial Secretary, Calabar chapter - Alumni UNICAL, in 2009, and now Member NEST Chapter. To give her life a balance, she also belongs to and engages in spiritual conferences, seminars, and workshops both locally and Internationally; among these are:- All African Ministers Network Conference(Ghana- 2008)), Global Leadership Summit, Global Harvest Summit, Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (2005-Date). In her active days of participation in sports and games, Blessing bagged lots of laurels; for instance, won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals during the AAA –Zonal Athletics competitions for Calabar Zone and also Bronze Medal for Cross River State in Handball game during the National Sports Festival ‘Oluyole†–79â€, Ibadan, 1979 and certificates to schools/collage/university, as well for the Cross River State. She has served her state and nation in different capacities; these among others are: Trainer U 17 Handball girls’ Team Cross River State, Trainer to both students/staff female basketball team University of Calabar, LOC Volunteer- “Match Day Crew†in Calabar Zone during the FIFA U-17 world football cup tournament tagged “Nigeria ’99.†Officiating official in several athletics meets, such as: Schools Sports, Nkoyo Ibori competition for the Physically Challenged people, Mobil Track & Field, Obudu Mt. Race, etc. Her kin interest and involvement in sports and games, her teaching profession, talents, as well as humanitarian services gave her wealth of experiences in various fields. Because of her wealth of experience and transparency in her job, she was appointed into a 7 Man committee (the only female panel member) of enquiry against some misdemeanor in the State Sports Commission – Cross River in 2010. Facilitator – Special Teacher Upgrading Programme (STUP) Calabar South LGA, for CRS Primary School Teachers. Blessing is no doubt a seasoned Sports Administrator, cum her talented knowledge in psychology and counseling, which has boasted her confidence to train and manage athletes/players and youth generally, at all levels disposed to her. She also assisted many youth discovered/developed their talents in career, sports and other areas of endeavours. Presently, Blessing is in the managerial cadre of the Royal Apex Sports Agency (RASA), saddled with the responsibility of the football team psychologist. Dr. B is also good in hospitality services, in the areas of Protocol, Event management, Tour consultancy, etc. One in a million of this noble profession, Blessing is hospitable and accommodating, a motivator and has charismatic of carrying people along; hence, she is not just a lecturer, but a role model and a mentor, a pathfinder of many youth fate, especially her students, widows, orphans, less privileged and friends. These efforts gain her many admirers and several awards, among these are:- -A Diploma Certificate Award in creative Arts and Culture – Norway, under the auspices of UNESCO. 1987 - Twice received Meritorial Award of good/dedicated service in Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International-Canaan City Chapter. 1997/2001 -Award in recognition for an “Astute leadership role and team supervision (Chaperone to the University of Calabar contingents), in the conclusion of the 23rd NUGA Games held at UNIBEN-2011†by her institution, which her contribution led the contingent to a huge success. 2011 -Award of Honour in recognition for support to Theatre – 4 Drama Ministry (Youth Wing)/ entire church (PCN) 2011 -Award of Excellence in Recognition towards Selfless Service Academic Development of Students (NAPHER.SD – UCC) 2015 -Award of Honour in Recognition for contributions to Students Unionism (Faculty of Education Students’ Association - UCC) 2015 -Meritorial Award as the Most Pragmatic Lecturer (NAPHER.SD – UCC) 2018 -Meritorial Award as the Best Female Dressed Lecturer (NAPHER.SD-UCC) 2018 -Medal Award as Sports Ambassador (Students Body Faculty of Education- UNICAL - ESAN) 2019 -Medal Award in Recognition towards Education Development in the Society (The Presbyterian PYPAN, - STP) 2019
