EmailDr. Levi U. Akah specialised as a Health Educator. Born on March 31, 1974 in the city of Onitsha, Levi started his pre-primary education in Baptist Day Care (omo de wa) in Ogbomosho, Oyo state. Primary education was in Abakpa, Ogoja - St. Theresa's and Government Primary Schools (OCC). In 1986 he enrolled in Government Technical College, Abakpa. In 1987, he later moved to the famous Mary Knoll College Okuku, in Yala Local Government Area (LGA) for continuation of his secondary education from where he obtained his WAEC/SSCE certificate in 1992/1993. He got admitted into the University of Calabar in 1995 and graduated with Bachelor of Science (Hons) Education (B.Sc.Ed) in Physical and Health Education, Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in 1999/2000. In 2003, he enrolled for a higher degree in the University of Calabar and bagged a Master of Education (M.Ed) degree in Health Education in 2005. He completed his PhD programme in Health Education in 2011, and was awarded Doctor of Philosophy in 2012 by the University of Calabar. Dr. Levi U. Akah came into the employ of University of Calabar (his alma mater) as an Assistant Lecturer in August 2006. He has quest for teaching and grooming young scholars. This he does with passion and dedication. He is a health educator with passion for public health concerns, and bias in nutrition, maternal and child health. His goal and ambition is to work with relevant stakeholders to synergise between orthodox and traditional medicine. He has published articles in international and local journals. He is a member of many professional organizations such as National Association of Physical and Health Education, Recreation Sports and Dance (NAPHER-SD); National Association Athletics Technical Officials (NAATO); Nigeria Association of Sports Science and Medicine (NASSM); Curriculum Organization of Nigeria (CON); National Council for Exceptional Children (NCEC); National School Health Association (NSHA), among others. He has successfully supervised 5 postgraduate theses, with 7 ongoing including masters and PhD. Dr. L. U. Akah has served in various capacities and positions of responsibility such as Acting Head, Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education (20017 - 2018); Senate member, University of Calabar Senate; Pioneer Chief Editor, Global Journal of Kinetics, Health, and Environmental Sciences (Departmental Journal); External Examiner, Federal College of Education Obudu; External Examiner, College of Education Katsina-Ala; member, Education for Today Editorial Board (Unical Faculty of Education Journal); Graduate Board Chairman, Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education; Research Project Coordinator; Examination Officer; Secretary, undergraduate Programme Review Committee; Secretary, post graduate Programme Review Committee; among others. He is currently Chairman of Departmental Journal Committee; Secretary Departmental Research Project Vetting Committee; Secretary, Departmental Quality Assurance Committee; Member, Departmental ICT/Linkages Committee; Member, Faculty Wellness Committee; and Member, Faculty ICT Committee. Dr. L. U. Akah is happily married with children. He is sociable and loves playing badminton and football. He loves meeting academics of like passion.
