Prof. Sylvia Bassey Akpassam Umoetok is a professor of Entomology in the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Wildlife Resources Management, University of Calabar. Professor Umoetok joined the service of the University as an Assistant Lecturer in 1987 and rose through the ranks to be promoted Professor in 2007. She holds B.Sc. (Agric., 1976, ABU), M.Sc. (Crop Protection, 1986, ABU), M.Sc. Environmental Protection and Management (1995, Edinburgh), M.Sc. (Soil Microbiology, 2008, UNICAL) and Ph. D Entomology (2000, UNICAL). She is a member of Crop Science Departmental Quality Assurance Committee of the University of Calabar. Professor Umoetok served as a Pest Research Consultant between 1992-1996 to Cross River State Agricultural Development Project. She had attended several local and international Seminars, Workshops and Conferences. She had published over 50 reviewed papers in reputable Journals worldwide. She had Supervised and graduated five Ph. D. students and over the same number of M.Sc students. Presently She is working on the management of termites on cassava and armyworm outbreak on maize in Nigeria. .
