Dr (Mrs) Peggy Willie holds a first degree in Genetics and Biotechnology obtained on 2006 from the University of Calabar, Nigeria. Determined to make a mark in this emerging field of knowledge, she proceeded to obtain a master of science degree in Plant Genetics and Biotechnology from 2008 to 2010. In 2020, she completed her Ph.D studies in Plant Biotechnology from the University of Calabar. Her research interests include exploring the rich diversity in indigenous underutilized medicinal plants, understanding their cytogenetic behaviours and exploring their potential usage in drug discovery for big pharma. Dr Willie is a beneficiary of the World Bank funded project (STEPB) on studies of spice plants and underutilized species (NUS) and also the TETFUND project on: Domestication and drug discovery from Gongronema latifolium " utazi": prospection, phylogenetic and phytochemical screening as a first step. Together with her husband, Emmanuel and two adorable children, they reside in the beautiful city of Calabar where she teaches courses in Genetics, Biotechnology and Cytogenetics at the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology, University of Calabar. .
