Dr. Otasowie Daniel Osunde

Dr. Otasowie Daniel Osunde joined the services of the University of Calabar, Calabar in 2012 as lecturer 1, and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2015. Dr. Osunde is presently Acting Head, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, while also holding brief for the Deputy Dean, in the Faculty of Dentistry in the university. Dr. Osunde has been teaching undergraduate courses in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in both the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry. He is also a Honorary Chief Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, Cross River State. Dr. Osunde is an active participant in the training and preparation of Resident Doctors in Dental Surgery for the Fellowship examinations in both the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, and the West African College of Surgeons. Dr. Osunde’s areas of research interest include: dentoalveolar surgery cranio-maxillo-facial trauma, cleft lip and palate surgery, maxillofacial tumors, craniofacial distraction osteogenesis and maxillofacial infections. Dr. Osunde is a B.D.S graduate of the University of Benin in 1998, and was awarded the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in 2008 after successful completion of postgraduate studies in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Osunde is also a beneficiary of the Fellowship Grant of the Switzerland-based AO Foundation for a short term Fellowship in Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery which he undertook at Burns, Plastic Maxillofacial Unit, Moriston Hospital, Swansea, South Wales, UK, in 2014. This culminated in the award of the AO Fellowship in Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery (FAOCMF). Dr. Osunde has attended and presented scientific papers in a number of local and international conferences, workshops, symposia and seminars, and he possess a good number academic publications in peered review journals, spread across both local and international journals. Dr. Osunde also plays an active role as a Reviewer to several local and international journals. Dr. Osunde is member of several professional bodies which include Nigerian Dental Association, Nigerian Medical Association, Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, African Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as well as International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
