Dr Olaide Edet joined the University of Calabar on transfer as Lecturer II in 1995 and rose up the ranks to become as Associate Professor of Community Health Nursing, Acting Head of Department, Deputy Dean of Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences and the pioneer Coordinator of the graduate nursing programme. These positions have given her the opportunity to provide general oversight and mentorship to graduate students and junior academics in research project development, collaboration, implementation, evaluation, knowledge translation skills and dissemination. Dr. Edet was born in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State and raised in Akure, althoughher parents were from Lagos State. She attended primary and secondary schools in Akure, Ondo State. She hadher basic nursing training at the prominent Lagos State School of Nursing and midwifery training at the prestigious University College Hospital, Ibadan, following which sheobtained reciprocal Registered General Nurse (RGN) from NMC, UK in 1990 after undertaking an adaptation programme at the University Hospital, Llandough, South Wales. Have practiced nursing extensively in Lagos, Ibadan, Egbe, Iyi-enu, Calabar, UK and Israel. Dr. Edet received her B.Sc. and PhD in Nursing, with a focus on nursing educationand occupational health nursing from the prestigious premiereUniversity of Ibadan.  She received her MPH degree from the same University with a focus on health education/health promotion.  She is a Fellow of the West African College of Nursing. She is a graduate of the highly esteemed Global Nursing Leadership Institute (GNLI) an ICN programme pioneering leadership, management and negotiation skill development among nurses for more than 20 years, through the highly successful Leadership for Change™ (LFC) and Leadership in Negotiation programmes. She has attended and made oral and poster presentations/ moderated sessions at over 65 national, regional and International conferences held at Ile-Ife, Akure, Abuja, Enugu, Osogbo, Uyo, Lagos, Warri (Nigeria), Senegal, Kenya, South Africa, Mexico, Greece, South Korea, Australia, United States of America, Canada and Switzerland.Dr. Edet has engaged in many multi-center and multi- country studies involving countries such as Kenya, India, Greece, Philippines, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Canada and United States of America in which she collaborated as Principal investigator (PI) for Nigeria. Dr. Edet is a prolific writer and researcher in nursing, health care and a reviewer of many nursing/healthcare journals. She has over 68 publications to her credit, which has been read by 23,081 researchers,many of which are published in open access, high impact factor journals.Dr Edet has won many grants including University of Calabar Senate research grant, 2006; TETFUND Institutional research grant 2013, Cross River State Nursing and Midwifery Research Foundation grant, 2016, Canadian Institute Health Research (CIHR), 2016. She has served as external examiner to various Universities’ undergraduate and post graduate programmes including University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu   Campus; Madonna University, Elele Campus, University of Benin, Nnamdi Azikwe University,Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State and University of Ibadan, Oyo State. Dr. Edet is a member of many national, regional and international organizationsincluding National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), West African College of Nursing (WACN) NANDA International, African  Network, Sigma Theta Tau International, Honor Society of Nursing;CHI-OMICRON- At- Large Chaptercovering Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria(second largest nursing organization in the world), International Council of  Nurses (ICN) Research Network, International Council of  Nurses (ICN) Education Network, International Network for Doctoral Education in Nursing (INDEN). As a seasoned academic and administrator, she has served as a leader on numerous prestigious boards and committees and has received honours for her professional roles.Notably are; Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Nurses’ & Midwives’ Disciplinary Tribunal of Nigeria, Examination Committee, Standards and Accreditation Committee, National University Commission Accreditation Committee. Dr. Edet is the Coordinator and founding member of the Cross River Nursing and Midwifery Research Foundation which raises awareness of and promotesnursing and midwifery led research production, development of knowledge mobilization mechanisms for evidence-based policy development innursing/health care. Dr. Olaide Edet is happily married to an expert community physician of no mean repute, Dr. Edet Edet of Community Medicine Department, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital. The union produced three adorable children, a medical practitioner, professional Nurse and an Engineer. Since March 2016she became a proud grandmother. She has anamazing little girl over two years old and a boy over six months old. They are the sunshine that brightness her days. .
