Michael Nkong-Nkan, formerly known as Michael Nyong is a Professor of Economics, University of Calabar. He obtained his first degree in Mathematics/Statistics in 1980 from the University of Lagos, M.Sc Economics in 1984 from the University of Ibadan and PhD Economics in 1989 from the University of Ibadan. He taught in various Universities including (i) University of Ibadan 1984-1986, (ii) Ogun State University 1986-1988 and (iii) Lagos State University, Ojoo, Lagos 1999. Thereafter he proceeded to United Nations Economic Commission UNECA Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1990, as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow and later appointed Assistant Director of SAATA /UNDP Macroeconomic Management Programme in Dakar Senegal in September 1990 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a position he held for two years till 1992. Michael O Nkong-Nkan latter returned to Nigeria and joined the University of Calabar in 1993 as Senior Lecturer. Professor Michael Nkong-Nkan has served the University of Calabar in various administrative capacities including (i) Chairman of Department of Economics Graduate Programme, (ii) Head of Department of Economics on two occasions 1999-2001, 1997-2009; (iii) chairman, faculty of Social Sciences graduate committee and Member of Graduate School Board; (iv) Member of Senate Committee on Winding Up of Socket Works, (v) Chairman of Faculty of Social Science Committee on Accreditation of Department of Tourism. Prof. M.O. teaches Mathematics for Economics, Operations Research, International Economics, Monetary Economics and Economic Theory at the University of Calabar. He has published many textbooks in Economics as well as several academic papers at both local and international levels. Professor M.O. Nyong was a macroeconomic consultant with the Debt Management Office (DMO), the Presidency Abuja 2002-2004, a visiting Professor of Economics at Covenant University, 2011/2012, and a member of vision 20:2020. He is a consultant for many International organizations including (i) West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management(WAIFEM); (ii) International Center for Economic Growth ICEG, California; (iii) EU-SUFEGOR, Brussels, Belgium, and (iv) African Economic Research Consortium AERC. He is also a consultant to several organizations in Nigeria such as (i) Central Bank of Nigeria, (ii) Ministry of Budget and National Planning MBNP, Abuja, (iii) Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja (iv) National University Commisision NUC Abuja and (v) African Heritage Institute Enugu. Prof. Michael Nkong-Nkan is married with children. .
