Dr. Lionel Effiom Ekpo

Dr Lionel Effiom started his academic career as a lecturer with the Department of Economics, Federal College of Education, Obudu, Cross River State, Nigeria, from where he moved to the Department of Economics in the University of Calabar. Besides a firm academic background in Economics (having received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Doctorate degrees from the same discipline), Dr Lionel Effiom also holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and is a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. His teaching and research interests span development economics, macroeconomics, econometrics and quantitative methods, international economics, and monetary Economics. A member of The Nigerian Economic Society, member Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and Associate Fellow Institute of Operations Research of Nigeria, Dr Lionel Effiom had brief stints in the private and public sectors before venturing into academics. He worked as a Planning Officer in the Cross River State Planning Commission. He has been a consultant to the Cross River State Government in the preparation of the Local Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (LEEDS) document for Akpabuyo Local Government Area as well as Consultant to GEMS3 – a DFID-funded programme implemented by Adam Smith International – on Policy Framework for Investment (PFI) Cross River PFI Review. Dr Lionel has served in several committees both in the Department of Economics and Faculty of Social Sciences. Presently he is the Secretary Departmental Post-graduate Board, Coordinator Department of Economics CES Programme, as well as member Faculty Journal Editorial Committee. He has published extensively in local and international journals and attended and presented papers in several conferences. He currently serves as a Council Member of the Nigerian Economics Society as an Associate Editor of the Society’s flagship journal, The Nigerian Journal of Economics and Social Studies. Dr Lionel Effiom has successfully supervised 5 Ph. D graduate students as well as six Masters graduate students. He is also a current and public affairs analysts and regularly features on FAD 93.1 FM. He is married to his beautiful Wife, Enobong whom he romantically calls Marigold. The marriage is blessed with 5 Children. .
