Mr. Joseph Felix Ekpenyong

Mr. Joseph Ekpenyong was born on 21st June, 1973 and is from Okpo (Ukwa Eburutu) in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Ekpenyong holds a Senior School certificate (SSC), obtained in June, 1992. In 1998, Joseph Ekpenyong graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc. Hons) degree in Zoology of the University of Calabar in the Second Class Lower Division grade. In 2004, Ekpenyong returned to his Alma Mata, the University of Calabar, to start a Master’s degree programme in Animal Physiology but his dream was not realized as the programme was not offered. Not deterred, he obtained a Postgraduate diploma (PGD) in Human Physiology in 2005 and persuaded his former department (Zoology) to seek approval to run a Master of Science and PhD programmes in Animal and Environmental Physiology. In 2010 he obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Zoology and Environmental Biology (Animal and Environmental Physiology with Mammalian Reproductive Physiology option) and proceeded immediately for the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree becoming the pioneer graduate student in Mammalian Reproductive Physiology and Teratology. Joseph Ekpenyong was also trained and became efficient in thesis formatting to meet the University of Calabar Graduate School Results and Theses Vetting Committee’s standard. The efficiency earned him a desk office in the Graduate School from 2005 to 2013, were virtually all theses in Graduate School were formatted by him before submission to the Vetting Committee. Joseph Ekpenyong has undergone professional development trainings culminating in the following certificates - Certificate in Participatory Techniques in Forest Resource Management and Community Development (RRDC, Calabar), Certificate in Laboratory Animal care and ethics (ACURET, Calabar), Certificate in Research Proposal Writing and Data Management (Obong University), Certificate in Work ethics, time management, self-esteem, self-development, leadership and mentorship (Calabar) and yet a Certificate in Report writing, proposal writing, grant writing and management of personal funds (Calabar). Joseph Ekpenyong is a zoologist with passion for neurobiology, physiology and environmental health. Mr. Ekpenyong working life has been one of administrative, teaching and technical challenges. His first exposure was at Adekunle Ideal College, Iyamoye, Ijumu, Kogi State, Nigeria, where he performed his mandatory youth service (1999-2000). Later he was with the Rainforest Resources and Development Center (RRDC) Calabar and Ikom, Cross River State where he served as project coordinator. In 2005, the then Dean of Graduate School, University of Calabar offered him a job as a Research Officer where he was solely responsible for theses formatting and ICT officer for the University Central Time Table Committee. Joseph Ekpenyong joined the academic mainstream of the University of Calabar as an Assistant Lecturer in November 23, 2015. He is a member of the Central Time Table Committee in the University and has taught several courses at the undergraduate level. His scholarly publications span over a wide spectrum and has to his credit a few publications in international and national journals and still counting. He has a flair for fine arts and design and has illustrated many textbooks. Besides creative arts, his other hobbies include gardening and preaching. Joseph Ekpenyong is married to Mrs. Temitope J.
