Dr. Item Justin Atangwho

Born in Bishiri, Obanliku, Cross River State, Nigeria, I. Justin Atangwho obtained a Bachelor of Sc.ience degree in Biochemistry, graduating with a 2nd Class Upper Division, from the University of Calabar in 2001 and a Doctorate degree in Medical Biochemistry from the same University in 2009. Thereafter, he completed a two-year TWAS-USM post doctoral research fellowship and training at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, Malaysia. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Calabar and has contributed numerous scholarly articles to reputable national and international peer-reviewed journals. His PhD dissertation: “Synergistic Antidiabetic Properties of Two Continental Plants: Impact of African Bitter Leaf and Asian Neem in Diabetic Rat Models” is published in Germany by LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishers GmbH & Co. KG and is available through amazon.com, morebooks.de and polare.nl. As a registered member of the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB), he has presented several scientific papers at national and international fora and is a notable peer-reviewer to many reputable journals. Dr. Atangwho is an erudite lecturer and a renowned research supervisor, as he was the winner of the 2010 Best Lecturer of the Year Award (pre-clinical) by the University of Calabar Medical Students Association (CUMSA). Also, he was winner of the 2013 AU-TWAS (African Union - Academy of Science for the Developing World) Young Scientist National Award (Earth and Life Sciences); and a co-recipient of the 2014 Anugerah Sanggar Sanjjung (Award of Honour for publishing in a journal among the Top 15% in the world), by the Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia. Dr. Atangwho was the 69th scientist in the 2015 ranking of the top 500 Scientists in Nigerian Institutions according to their GSC (Google Scholar Citations) public profiles; and the 3rd of the 29 University of Calabar Scientists listed. He is joyously married to Dr. Anietie Atangwho and the marriage is being blessed with lovely children. .
