Prof. Udeme Isong Enin obtained B.Sc (Hons.) in Biology (Fisheries) – 2nd ClassUpper Division in 1982, and a Ph.D in Fisheries & Aquaculture in1995; both from the University of Calabar, Nigeria. He also holds apost-graduate Diploma in Marine Affairs from Dalhousie University,Halifax, Canada in 1991. He won a Post-Doctoral Fellowship of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), Bonn, Germany, and conducted research at Institute of Baltic Sea Fishery in Rostock, Germany, from June 2001 to December 2002. He had a Renewed Post-Doctoral Fellowship of AvH conducting research at von Thuinen Institute of Sea Fisheries (vTI-SF), Hamburg, Germany, from October to December 2010. He was invested as Fellow of Fisheries Society of Nigeria (Ffs) in July 2016. Prof.Enin was appointed Junior Research Fellow in Institute of Oceanography, University of Calabar, Nigeria, in October 1984, and rose through the ranks to become Professor of Fishery Biology in October 2005. He became the Director of the Institute of Oceanography, University of Calabar, from February 2011 to March 2013. Previously, he had been a two-time Acting Head, Department of Biological Oceanography of the Institute (1997-1999 and 2004-2006). Prof. Enin’s research has been appropriately focused on investigating the population dynamics and stock assessment of key economically important fisheries in Nigeria, to provide a scientific basis for their management and conservation. His research interests include: marine and coastal fisheries, fisheries oceanography, marine and coastal biodiversity, impact of climate change on marine ecosystems and fisheries, and environmental impact assessment (EIA) in the areas of petroleum exploration and production in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Prof. Enin had won Equipment Donation valued at € 26,388.00 (or ₦4.3 million) from Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Bonn, Germany in March 2004. Together with his research partners in Germany, Prof. Enin has studied the ecological theory of biomass production and size spectra in the Baltic Sea; and the combined impacts of climate and fishing on the North Sea fish communities using the size spectra. Prof. Enin has participated in more than 20 consultancy research projects for governments, petroleum companies, environmental consultancy firms and NGOs. Prof. Enin has more than 80 publications most of which in international peer-reviewed journals. Prof. Enin was a member of Nigeria’s Vision 2020 National Technical Working Group (NTWG) on Agriculture and Food Security; a member of the Study Group on Biotechnology Strategy of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; and a member of the Visitation Panel to the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), Calabar, Nigeria, in 2012. Prof. Enin is a Fellow of Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON), a Fellow of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), Bonn, Germany, member of Pan-African Fish and Fisheries Association (PAFFA), member of Network of Tropical Aquaculture and Fisheries Professionals (NTAFP), The World Fish Center, Penang, Malaysia, and member of Alexander von Humboldt Club of Nigeria. Presently, Prof. Enin is the Focal Point (in the University of Calabar) of the International University Network on Cultural and Biological Diversity (IUNCBD), a Network aimed at closing the gap between science and policy, between academia and policy makers in the area of biodiversity and ecosystem services. He has organized several national and international scientific and multi-stakeholder conferences. He works comfortably with several Microsoft Office packages and Statistical applications; and has high proficiency in English Language. .
