Dr Okon attended Federal Government College Sokoto (Nigeria) where he obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC) in June 1998. He later furthered his study in the University of Calabar where he graduated with bachelors (BSc in Geology) and doctoral (Ph.D in Sedimentology) in 2006 and 2021 respectively; and a Master’s of Science (MSc in Petroleum Geology/Sedimentology from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan (Nigeria) in 2011. Emmanuel was a recipient of the NMGS/Total Award, 2015 for best paper presented at the NMGS Conference held in Lagos in 2014. Emmanuel started his career as an academic in 2013 as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Calabar, Calabar where he is currently serving as a Lecturer II. Dr Okon’s major research over the years has been focussed on sedimentology (clastics and carbonate) and sedimentary geochemical characterization of source rocks for hydrocarbon generation as well as provenance studies. Recently, direct application of applied geological methods in the search of mineral resources has been of utmost interest to him. In all, these research activities have produced to date more than 20 publications in both local and international peer review journals, as well as contributions in chapters in books. Also, for a balanced and wide spread view of his research works, the outcomes and results of these studies have been presented in more than 10 conferences in Nigeria and Tunisia. Dr. Emmanuel Okon is currently a lecturer majoring in the areas of Sedimentology and sedimentary Petrology, Petroleum Geochemistry, Petroleum Geology and Sequence stratigraphy, Exploration Geology in the University of Calabar, Nigeria. He is an active Researcher and Consultant Geoscientist duly registered to practice geosciences in Nigeria. Dr Okon is a member of the following associations: Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationist (NAPE), International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS), American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and Registered with Council for Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG).
