Dr Emmanuel B. Effa joined the service of the University of Calabar in 2010 as an Assistant lecturer, and moved to the rank of Lecturer I in 2016. He obtained a B. Agriculture degree in Crop Science (1998), M.Sc. Crop Science in 2004 and finally a doctoral degree in Crop production in 2012, with an emphasis in horticulture all from the University of Calabar, Calabar, Nigeria. Presently, he is involved in teaching and research at both under graduate and post graduate levels. He has managed the affairs of the Faculty Students Industrial Work Employment Scheme /Year Four Practical Programme as Coordinator both at Departmental and Faculty levels, and really enjoyed working with the practical year students in crop production and management. He is very much interested in research centred on neglected and underutilized species (NUS) and food security. Dr Effa has attended several seminars, trainings, conferences and workshops and looks forward to attending more. Dr Effa is actively involved in research and has published several peer reviewed journal publications. Presently, he is searching for collaboration opportunities in the development of neglected and underutilized species and food security. In 2016/2017, he was awarded winner of the Research Award on Ecology for his research on “Reforestation and Sustainable Management of Degraded Rainforests in Sub-Saharan Africa: Indigenous and Scientific Approaches” by the Support Africa International/Support Africa Foundation, Nassau, Germany. In June 2018, he was elected the Executive Governor for organic Agriculture in the University of Calabar and is charged with the enormous task of developing organic agriculture, both as a practice and a subject of interest within the University of Calabar, Cross River State and nearby states that fall under his purview. .
