Born on July 3, 1952 Professor Emeka Emmanuel Okwueze hails from Imilike in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Professor Okwueze joined the services of the University of Calabar in 1977 as a Graduate Assistant. He has a B.Sc. degree in Physics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1975 and then got a Master of Science degree in Applied Geophysics from ABU Zaria in Nigeria and then proceeded to the University of Wisconsin – Madison in the United States where he bagged a Ph. D degree in Geophysics in 1983. Emeka Okwueze became a Professor of Geophysics in 1996 and presently has over 55 publications in both nationally and internationally based journals in addition to technical reports and 4 books. Professor Okwueze has successfully supervised 25 M.Sc. and 12 Ph. D degree graduates, 5 of who are now Full Professors and 2 are Associate Professors. He has so far attended over 60 conferences, seminars and workshops in Nigeria, Africa, Europe and the U.S.A. His special areas of competence are in Groundwater and Engineering Geophysics including Supervision for Water Drilling and Well Completion Projects. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Physics (FNIP) and served as the National President of the Institute for 2 terms of 4 years. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (FNMGS) and a registered member of the Council of Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG). In the University of Calabar, Prof Okwueze has served as a Head of Department of Physics (2 years), Dean of Students Affairs (4 years), Member of the University Governing Council (4 years) and Dean of Graduate School (2 years) and has chaired 3 Senate Committees (4 years each). Prof is presently the Coordinator of the South-South Zone of the National Water Resources Capacity Building Network (NWRCBNet) Centre in the University of Calabar..
