Prof. Elemi John Ani was employed in the University of Calabar as Lecturer II in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medical Sciences on 7th February 2002. He has since risen through the ranks and was promoted to Professor of Physiology in October 2018. He attended University Primary School, Nsukka from 1976-1982 where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. His secondary school education was in Federal Government College, Enugu (FGCE) from 1982-1988 where he obtained his Senior School Certificate. He studied Medicine and Surgery at the University of Calabar between 1992-1999 and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh) degree. He obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Physiology in 2006 and 2012 respectively, from the University of Calabar. He was a recipient of the University of Calabar postgraduate study fellowship award from 2009-2011 and the Cross River State postgraduate scholarship award from 2006-2009. He also won the University of Calabar convocation prize for best graduating M. Sc. Student in physiology for the 2005/2006 session at the 23rd convocation of the University of Calabar. He has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students for several years and has held several talks on safety and first aid in the workplace. He has attended several local and international conferences and presented many scientific papers. He has successfully supervised and mentored over ten postgraduate students including Ph.D., M.Sc., and postgraduate diploma students in Physiology. He has been involved in several research projects and the organization of scientific conferences. He has been chairman of sub-committees for some national scientific conferences and meetings of professional bodies such as the Annual General Conference and Scientific Meeting of the Physiological Society of Nigeria (PSN) held in Calabar (2012) and the Annual Delegates Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), in 2017. He is the Assistant Editor for Science/Medicine of the Academic Publishing Centre; a TETFUND initiative in the University of Calabar to serve the publication needs of Tertiary Institutions in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. He is a member of the Physiological Society of Nigeria (PSN), Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), and Neuroscience Society of Nigeria. He has published over thirty-five scientific papers in reputable National and International Journals. He is happily married with Children. .
