The Rev. Ekpenyong Akpanika is a lecturer with the University of Calabar, Department of Religious and Cultural Studies. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in Religious Studies, University of Calabar, Nigeria and his Master of Theology (Th. M) from Western Theological Seminary, Holland, Michigan, U.S.A. He bagged his Ph.D in Sociology of Religion, from his Alma-Mata, University of Calabar; specializing in Religion and Social Gerontology. In addition, he holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (P.G.D.E) from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Aside his teaching career, Rev. Akpanika is a Pastor, an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria and has pastured churches within and outside the country. He is a onetime missionary to the Republics of Benin/Togo Francophone Mission Presbytery and the National Director of Youth Programmes of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria. He has attended several workshops and Conferences and presented papers within and outside the country. He is a fellow and member of the following academic bodies, Fellow: Association of Christian Theologians (ACTS), Fellow: Society for Research and Academic Excellence (FSRAE), University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria. Member, African Association of Pastoral Studies and Counseling (AAPSC), Member, Nigerian Association for Biblical Studies (NABIS), Member, Gerontology Association of Nigeria (GERAN), Member, Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons in Nigeria (COSROPIN). He has journal articles, book chapters and some awards to his credit. He is the Founder and Facilitator of REVENA Pastoral Centre, a Centre Passionate for the Welfare of the Elderly.
