Dr. Ekere Ene Ukwang

Dr. Ekere Ukwang was employed into the services of the University of Calabar in 1993 as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Geology. He holds two master’s degrees in Mineral Exploration (Geophysics option) and in Petrology/Geochemistry from University of Ibadan, Nigeria and University of Calabar, Nigeria respectively. In 2007 he went on to acquire a PhD degree in Petrology/Geochemistry from University of Calabar, Nigeria. Currently, Dr Ekere Ukwang is researching on the Petrology, geochemistry and geotectonic setting of the columnar basalts from Ikom-Mamfe embayment, southeastern Nigeria. The research is aimed at establishing the structural settings of the various lithologic units, petrology, petrogenesis and age relationship of the basaltic flows in relation to the Cameroon Volcanic Line. Dr. Ukwang has supervised over 100 undergraduate theses, 6 M.Sc and 5 PhD theses. He has published over 15 articles in local and international journals; coauthored a textbook in Mineralogy and Optical Mineralogy. He is a cooperate member of Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society of Nigeria, Member Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists; Member, European Centre for Research Training and Development, U K..
