Dr. Edet Mesembe Ita

Mesembe Ita Edet is a senior lecturer in the department of Philosophy of the University of Calabar where he received his B.A, M.A and Ph.D degrees. He also teaches at the Bassey Andah Institute of African and Asian studies in the University and is a visiting scholar to the Federal University Wukari, Taraba State, Nigeria. His areas of research interest and specialization cover African Philosophy, Comparative Philosophy, Philosophy of Culture, Inter-Cultural Philosophy, Oriental Philosophy and Philosophy of Law and he has published locally and internationally in these areas. He has made presentations at several local and international conferences including at the 23rd World Congress of Philosophy (WCP) organized by the International Federation of Philosophical Societies (FISP) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, Greece in August 2013 and at PHIL HIST 13 conference of the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in November 2013. Edet was one of the facilitators of the 1st and 2nd International Conference on African Philosophy which held at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg South Africa in 2015 and University of Calabar in 2017 respectively. Mesembe Edet is a member of the Philosophers Association of Nigeria (PAN), member, Association for the Promotion of Nigerian Languages and Culture (APNILAC), member Researchers International Network (RIN) and scribe of the Conversational school of Philosophy (SCP). He is Editor, Ndunode, Journal of the Faculty of Arts, University of Calabar, Nigeria and Associate Editor, Filosofia Theoretica, Journal of African Philosophy, Culture and Religions. Some of Mesembe Edet’s specific contributions to knowledge (theory) in African Philosophy are his theory of Afroxiology, his theory of conceptual mandelanisation and his theory of mandelanism: Mesembe Edet is the 1st Calabar School of Philosophy (CSP) Distinguished Academic Lecturer. On 28th August 2015 he delivered his lecture entitled “Afroxiology, Conceptual Mandelanization and the Conversational order in the New Era of African Philosophy”. .
