Dr (Mrs) Rose Ohiama Ugbe holds a Ph.D degree in Law from the University of Jos in 2015. She joined the services of the University in 1995 as an Assistant Lecturer after her brilliant performance at undergraduate level. She graduated from Faculty of Law in 1990 with Second Class Upper Division and as the best female graduating student of that year which earned her Late Justice Edem Koofreh’s award for the best female graduating student of that year. She rose through the ranks to be promoted Associate Professor in 2016. She has held many positions of authority including Faculty of Law Senate Representative (2019 till date), first female Acting Dean, Faculty of Law (2016-2018), pioneer Head of Department of Private and Property Law (2015-2017), sub Dean, Faculty of Law (2002-2008), Deputy Director, Entrepreneurship Development Centre (2015-2017) and many others. Dr Ugbe has been teaching and contributing to the graduation of both undergraduate and post-graduate students in the Faculty of Law, She has taught many courses at the undergraduate level since she joined the services of the University of Calabar some of which are Nigerian Legal System, Conflict of Laws, Family Law, Administrative Law, Environmental and Planning Law, Intellectual Property Law, Criminal Law. She has taught and is still teaching LL.M, Ph.D and PGD students. At the graduate level, she teaches Intellectual Property Law, Environmental and Planning Law and Administrative Law. She has successfully supervised and co-supervised over fifteen Graduate Students’ thesis. Dr Ugbe has published in both local and international peer review journals. Dr Ugbe has served many journals including Global Journal of Humanity and Arts as reviewer. She was a co-editor (2016) and latter, editor-in-chief (2017-2018) of Calabar Law Journal, Co-editor of Nigeria’s Political Economy and Courtship with Poverty: A Compendium of Readings in Honour of Prof. Patrick O. Utomi (2015), Excellence in Legal Studies in Nigeria (2016) and many others. Dr Ugbe has attended many local and international conferences where she presented papers. Her diligence and ruggedness in the educational turf and numerous services to mankind has earned her many awards including Legal Amazon Award of Excellence by the Nigerian Bar Association, Calabar Branch; the Doyen Bar on 22nd June 2018 and an award of Honour by Students Union Government in 2015 and 2018. Others include Youth Ambassador for Peace by Universal Peace Federation and Youth Federation for World Peace, Abuja (2008); Golden Mother by the Right Care International Club, Abuja (2008); award of Excellence by Law Students Association of Nigeria, University of Calabar Chapter (2018); National Youth Service Corps Humanitarian Service Award (2008); Fellows Scholar (2003); Late Justice Edem Koofreh’s Award for the best graduating female student in the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar (1990) and many others. The church and many religious organizations has also bestowed many awards on her including Honour Mother Award, Award of Excellence, Award of an Icon of Meritorious Service, Award of Excellence by World Union of Catholic Women Organization, African Leadership Excellence Award (2016). She is listed in the Contemporary Who’s Who in Cross River State (2013/2014) and Cross River Amazon (2010 edition) amongst others. Dr Mrs Rose Ugbe is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Nigeria Association of Law Teachers and International Federation of Female Lawyers, where she served as Secretary General between 2007 and 2010..
