Dr .S S. Akpan was born on 5th January, 1968 in use Abat, Ibiono Ibom to the family of Chief & Mrs Sabastian Akpan Etok of Nung Obio- inie in Akwa Ibom state.He attended St. Paul’s primary School Nkwa Ibiono in 1974 and completed in 1980 and proceeded to Archibong memorial secondary School Ukpom. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc) in Mathematics and statistics of the University of Port Harcourt, an M.Sc degree in statistics of the University of Ibadan and a doctor of philosophy (Ph.D) degree in Statistics University of Port Harcourt.His working experiences spans for a period of twenty years. He begun his working career as an Assistant lecturer at the federal polytechnic Auchi in 1996 before leaving for the university of Calabar. By dint of hard work, he rose through the ranks to the position of associate professor of Statistics, University of Calabar. A one time Sub-Dean of the faculty of science, Dr. S. S Akpan has to his credit 37 publications mostly in foreign journals.He is a member of many professional bodies among whom are: Nigeria statistical association (NSA), Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), International Association of Biometrics (IAB) and Nigeria Statistical Society (NSS).A devoted catholic faithful, a third degree knight of St. Molumba, Nigeria, Dr. Akpan is a patron to many societies and organizations in the catholic church, a recipient of many awards and currently the vice chairman of the pastoral council, St. Mary’s pre-cathedral catholic church in Calabar.He is happily married with two children.
