Prof. Akan Asuquo Brooks

Prof. Akan Asuquo Brooks is an associate professor of Industrial Microbiology with bias in Pharmaceutical Microbiology. He joined the University of Calabar as Lecturer I in 2008 and was promoted to the ranks of senior lecturer and associate professor in 2011 and 2014 respectively. He obtained his B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Microbiology and Industrial Microbiology respectively from the University Uyo, while his Ph.D in Industrial Microbiology with emphasis in Pharmaceutical Microbiology was obtained from the University of Calabar. Prof. A.A. Brooks has earned many awards and honours from reputable corporate organizations and associations. He has been involved in continuous teaching, supervision of research projects and community developments. He has served in many committees within and outside the University Community. His administrative experiences include Acting sub-dean of the Faculty of Science, Head of Department of Microbiology, Member, Central Time Table Committee, and Chairman, Departmental Post Graduate Committee.Prof. Brooks has attended several conferences and participated in many Science – based activities such as seminar presentations, scientific talks, symposia and post graduate defense. He has served as a reviewer to African Journal of Biotechnology and as external examiner for undergraduate research projects at Obong University and the University of Uyo. Prof. Akan Brooks has initiated and completed several research projects. He has successfully supervised over four M.sc and three Ph.D students. Currently, he is working on a project titled Genomic modeling of microorganisms for enhanced production of industrial and pharmaceutical solvents. He is a member of Nigerian Society of Microbiology, Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology, Biological Conservation Society of Nigeria and Nigerian Society of Experimental Biology. He has published over thirty research articles in reputable academic journals. Prof. A. A. Brooks is married with five children.  .
