Dr Vitalis Ugochukwu Eke hails from Olido Elugwu Ezike, Igbo Eze L.G.A. of Enugu State, Nigeria. He had his primary and secondary education and showed very keen interest in teaching profession. This took him to University of Jos where he got his first degree in Special Education. He did his youth service at Imo state where he was all through in one Emii Community Secondary School, near Owerri , the capital of the state as a teacher. There after, he was employed to teach Elements of Special Education at Teacher Training College , Nsukka in Enugu state. In that very school, he was honoured as the most resourceful teacher which, today, he has certificate of the merit from the school authority. This inspired him for further his education at University of Nigeria Nsukka where he had his Masters’ degree and Doctor of Philosophy degree. Within the time lag of this vigorous academic pursuit, he was a part time lecturer at Federal College of Education Eha Amufu in Enugu State as well as National Teachers’ Institute Study Centre Ekposhi of Enugu State : NTI/NCE/DLS. He later left to join National Open University of Nigeria at its Headquarters in Lagos He was the first and then the only special educator employed by the University. It was from this University that he joined the Department of Special Education, University of Calabar. He teaches both first degree and post graduate students in the school. He has served as resource person for Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Imo state for more than one occasion. He has presented talks and papers at Obollo Education Zone of Enugu state for students leadership training several times. He has been invited by several schools to address teachers on the days of Teachers’ Forum. He has served and still serving his community in cognisance of tripartite roles of a lecturer that include teaching , researching and community services. In extention,back to this University he has served as the secretary of Faculty of Education Quality Assurance Committee. He has among others served the Department of Special Education as Examination Officer and Coordinator of Postgraduate programme as the Chairman of the Committee. He is one of the reviewers of the Faculty and Departmental Journals. He is currently the managing Editor of the Departmental Journal. He has co-edited book of reading. He is good at mentoring students. He has supervised both Masters students and Ph.D students as a second supervisor. He has attempted venturing into research grants though yet to win but very hopeful. He has attended many conferences and presented papers in most of them. He has published scholarly articles locally and internationally. In some of the aforesaid works, he collaborated with other researchers. His research interest bother on persons with visual impairment and special education generally that captures persons with special needs. He belongs to many professional organization..
