Dr. Onot Obono Ekpe studied Chemistry and obtained a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Chemistry in 1986, M. Phil. (Food Chemistry) in 1994 and PhD degree in Nutrition and Food Science (1998), all from the University of Calabar. Dr Ekpe also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Agribusiness and Postharvest Management from the Galilee International Management Institute, Israel (2014). In 1980, Onot Obono Ekpe was employed into the services of the Cross River State Government Ministry of Agriculture where she rose through the ranks to become a Director in the Cross River State Civil Service in 2008. She served the University of Calabar between 2010 and 2015 as an Adjunct Lecturer. In March 2015, she was given a permanent appointment by the University of Calabar as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry. Since then, she has been teaching, mentoring and contributing to the graduation of students in the University. She has over twenty two publications in reputable peer reviewed local and international journals. She is reputed to be the first Nigerian Scientist to have isolated bioactive principles from Irvingia gabonensis (locally called ogbono). Dr Onot Obono Ekpe’s main research interests vary from food chemistry, food microbiology, postharvest loses to Industrial and Nutritional Biochemistry. She has participated and presented papers at many local and International Scientific Conferences, symposia, seminars and workshops amongst which include dietary sufficiency in mineral contribution from African yam beans (Sphenostylis stenocarpa) and soya beans (Glycin sp) consumed in southern Nigeria that she presented at the IUNS 21st ICN International Congress of Nutrition “From Sciences to Nutrition Security” Buenos Aires, Argentina, 15-20 October 2017. Dr Ekpe has successfully supervised and co-supervised four graduate students in Nutrition and Food Science and many undergraduate students’ projects. Dr Ekpe is a member of many professional groups including Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Institute of Public Analyst of Nigeria, Nigeria Institute of Food Science and Technology and American Society of Science and Technology. She is happily married with children..
