Frances Ngozi Obafemi is a Professor of Economics at the University of Calabar, Calabar. She attended various primary schools but finished at Zik Avenue Primary School, Enugu in 1973. Thereafter, she proceeded to Queen’s School, Enugu in 1973 and finished in 1978 in Division 1. She obtained a BSc (Honours) in Economics and Statistics at the University of Benin, Benin-City in 1984; and subsequently bagged an MSc and a PhD all in Economics from the University of Calabar, Calabar. Her areas of research interest are Monetary Economics, Public Finance, Health Economics and Environmental Economics. She has held various positions in the University of Calabar and is a member of many University committees which includes Head, Department of Economics(2009-2011); Chairman, Departmental Graduate Committee Board(2013-2015); Member, Management Committee of the Entrepreneurial Centre; Examination Officer; Member Faculty Lecture Series Committee & Faculty Quality Control/Disciplinary Committee, etc. While at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) on sabbatical leave between December 2011 and November 2012, she was the pioneer Head of Department of Economics and Management Sciences in the Research Directorate. She is still a resource person to NIPSS and delivers lectures to participants of the Senior Executive Course of the institute. She has participated in the NUC accreditation of many universities. She is the current Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees of African Green Economy Society (AGES). Professor Obafemi has over 40 publications which includes books, chapters in books, technical reports and articles in reputable foreign and local journals. She is a consultant to some World Bank agencies; and member, Nigeria Economic Society and African Economic Research Consortium, Nairobi. She is married with children. .
