Dr Felix Awara Eke joined the services of the University of Calabar in 2014 as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Economics. He was later upgraded to the of Lecturer II in 2016. Dr Eke was awarded a B.Sc. (Hons), M.Sc. and PhD degrees in Economics by the University of Calabar in 2002, 2010 and 2016 respectively. His areas of research interest are Health and Development, Public Sector, Microeconomics and Institutional Economics. He is married with children. He has held various positions of responsibilities in the University of Calabar and has served as a member in a number of University Committees including Examinations Officer between 2014 and 2017, Secretary, Departmental Quality Assurance Committee (2015-2017) and member, Faculty Examinations Committee (2015-2017). Felix received the African Doctoral Dissertation Research Fellowship from the African Population and Health Research Centre in Nairobi, Kenya between 2015 and 2017 for his PhD research study on the economic efficiency of secondary care hospitals in Cross River State, Nigeria. He had also bagged four travel grants for short courses/trainings and workshops in various African Countries such as Kenya, The Gambia and Tunisia. He was part of the team engaged by the Cross River State Government to undertake a baseline study on the implementation of free healthcare services to pregnant women and children under five years across LGAs in the state. Prior to joining the academic institution, he worked as Research Manager and Head of Urban Development and Tourism Units of the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service between 2012 and 2014 and in IDRC/CIDA funded Nigeria Evidence Based Health System Initiative (NEHSI) between 2010 and 2012. He also had a stint with the Nigerian Partner of a DfID funded Research Programme Consortium (RPC) between 2006 and 2010. He is the current Treasurer of African Green Economy Society (AGES), a member of Nigerian Economic Society and also a member of the Young Scholars Initiative. He has published over fifteen articles in peer reviewed local and international journals, contributed a book chapter and has been involved in a handful of consultancies with local and international organisations. .
