Mr. Effiom Eyo Ita

Ita, Effiom Eyo was born in Calabar Municipal Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. He holds a BSc, MSc, and PhD (Plant Biotechnology) degrees from the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology, University of Calabar, Calabar, Nigeria. He was appointed Assistant Lecturer in the same Department in April, 2016. He was a visiting researcher in the Laboratory of Plant Cell Technology, Graduate School of Horticulture, Chiba University, Matsudo Campus, Chiba, Japan (October, 2017 to September, 2019) and a beneficiary of the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation grant (Program for Emerging Agriculture Research Leaders-PEARLs) for postgraduate research on ‘Biotechnology approach for producing disease-free, high-performing yam seedlings’. He is a member of Biotechnology Society of Nigeria (BSN), Genetics Society of Nigeria (GSN) and American Society of Microbiology (ASM). His current research interest include: collection, characterization and conservation of neglected and underutilised plant species (NUS), genetic engineering of plants for stress resistance and increased productivity, regulation of gene expression by small RNAs, CRISPR, and germplasm conservation..
