MBBS (Sydney), FRACS (Paediatric Surgery)

Augustine Lishilinimye Udefa is currently an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Physiology. He joined the University of Calabar as a Graduate Assistant in 2017. Udefa is an enthusiastic researcher who has demonstrated excellence in his academic pursuit. Before obtaining his M.Sc. degree in 2019, Udefa’s research spanned various areas of Physiology. Now, his research focuses on the impact of toxicants on the male reproductive system and the possible ameliorating effects of natural compounds. Humans are constantly being exposed to environmental hazards and other disease-containing substances which affect their reproductive system. One mechanism implicated in substance-induced testicular dysfunction is oxidative stress. Antioxidants and antioxidants-containing substances have shown great potential to combat oxidative damage to the male reproductive system. Udefa is currently exploring the efficacies and mechanisms of action of several plant products that are reported to improve male reproductive functions. He utilizes ELISA, microscopy, spectrophotometry, histological techniques and Image J software in carrying out his studies. Udefa has published over twenty research articles in reputable journals. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and will be commencing his doctoral degree in 2023. .
