The Cross River Community, University of Calabar (Unical), has declared its unalloyed support for the administration of the current Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, saying they are solidly behind her.

The President of the Community in Unical, Dr. Raphael Offiong stated this when he led other members of the community on a courtesy visit on the Vice Chancellor.

Dr. Offiong said the community is poised to join forces with the Vice Chancellor to achieve the mission and vision of her administration, adding that Cross River Community, a subset of the larger University Community, was happy to identify with the First Female Vice Chancellor of the institution.

According to the community leader, a sustained partnership with the current administration can act as a catalyst for development in the institution, even as he called on the University helmsman to see the Community as partners in progress.

While thanking the Vice Chancellor for the warm reception, he said the community, and by extension the institution, was guaranteed of the quality of leadership the institution will witness under her watch, adding that her track records as an academic had been phenomenal.

Dr. Offiong who also described the Vice Chancellor as a ‘mother’ said the Community will key into the policy thrust of her administration, just as he urged everyone to purge themselves of negative vices that may be inimical to the success of the current administration.

This came as he called on the Vice Chancellor to run an all-inclusive administration where ideas from other stakeholders are considered as a veritable tool for planning, policy formulation and implementation in the institution.

He also used the opportunity of the visit to intimate the Vice Chancellor of the proposed commissioning of the Cross River Community Hall, saying the community will be highly honored by her esteemed presence.

Hear him, ‘’ you have no reason to be afraid because Cross River Community is solidly behind you. The Community will continue to be with you as you pilot the affairs of our great citadel of learning.

 

‘’ We are guaranteed of the quality of leadership Unical will witness due to your antecedent as a thoroughbred administrator. The Community will partner with you to achieve your mandate’’.

In the same vein, leader of the Community for the Northern Senatorial District, Unical, Prof. Emmanuel Inah said they are ready to bring useful ideas that will guide the current University Management in decision making, just as he expressed optimism that the University helmsman will excel beyond measure.

He also thanked the Vice Chancellor for restoring Water and electricity in the Staff quarters, stating that it showed that she was responsive to the welfare needs of staff.

Also, leader of the Community for the Central, Dr. Leku Ador, described the Vice Chancellor as a ‘bonafide’ member of the Community and assured her of maximum support.

Dr. Ador said the community will not betray the trust reposed on them by the Vice Chancellor and restated the Community’s resolve to synergize and give ‘progressive’ support to the Vice Chancellor.

Similarly, leader of community for the South, Mr. Umoh Nyong said the community was proud of her, for showing adequate capacity as Vice Chancellor.

He also commended the Vice Chancellor for establishing the Directorate system of administration in the institution, which he believed, would lead to increased productivity.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi expressed delight with the visit and described the current leadership of the community as a ‘God ordained leadership’.

Prof. Florence Obi who expressed confidence with the leadership quality of the current President of the Community said she was impressed with his giant strides, especially, his efforts at enthroning peace and unity amongst staff.

The Vice Chancellor said meaningful development and progress cannot be achieved in a rancorous environment, hence the need for the Community to continue to sustain peace and unity in the University Community, irrespective of ethnic affiliations.

She said, ‘’ this present leadership of Cross River Community is what I can describe as a God ordained leadership. The team is made up of people of integrity and I am proud to associate with you.

‘’ We must all embrace peace in all our endeavors. As a community, you are my eyes and my ears and that is why we must join hands to place our university on a higher pedestal, so that it can be at par with other universities”.

The University Vice Chancellor also described the Cross River Community Hall as a ‘legacy’ project, saying the current leadership of the Community have etched their names in gold for the unprecedented feat.  

Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of a customized souvenir and other items to the Vice Chancellor by the President of the Community.
