The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has urged all Campus based religious groups to engage in community service that will benefit society.

Prof. Florence Obi made the statement when the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star's Association of Brotherhood Academic Scholars (ABAS) International paid a courtesy visit on her  recently.

She emphasized that there is a need for religious groups on campus  to consider the impact they want to make on society and future generations.

While expressing her pleasure with the theme of the ABAS' forthcoming 45th Anniversary and International Conference tagged; "Behavioral Change Approach and Moral Regeneration Among Students", she expressed the optimism that the message will help address some of the behavioural issues prevalent in higher institutions, particularly among youths.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Eno Grace Nta, the Vice Chancellor commended the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star for encouraging and sponsoring participation in conferences.

She said, "We are happy when we see things done in the academia."

She thanked them for honouring her as a keynote speaker for their forthcoming event and assured them of her administration's willingness to collaborate with all faith  groups on campus.

 

Earlier, the International President of, the Association of Brotherhood Academic Scholars, Patriarch Christ Shepherd Ekuma Ngwu, who spoke on behalf of the team, expressed his delight, as an alumnus of the institution, over the impressive development strides of the current administration.

He stated  that the visit aimed to familiarize themselves with the administration and discuss areas of synergy and possible collaborations, as well as, update them on the association's upcoming mega campus convention.

Ekuma Ngwu who used the opportunity to officially invite the Vice Chancellor as Special Guest and Keynote Speaker for the event, highlighted the need to rebrand some of the behavioural attitudes of youths geared towards moulding them into better leaders in the future, hence the need to host the event in the university.

This is even as he appreciated the University Management for the warm reception accorded them.
