A UK-based law firm, Addleshaw Goddard LLP and Explore Tech Africa has donated laptops to staff and students of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Calabar(Unical).

 

The Dean of the Faculty, Engr. Prof. Odey Osha disclosed this during a brief presentation ceremony in the Faculty recently.

 

According to the Dean, the gesture tagged '' Reward for Effectiveness and Academic Excellence'' was part of the firm's Corporate Social Responsibility geared towards ICT Development in the University.

 

He said the event which featured the presentation of laptops to staff members of the Faculty, including outstanding 200 and 300-level students, is in sync with the commitment of the Faculty to the initiative and visionary leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi towards elevating the ICT status of the University and production of quality graduates for global competitiveness.

 

Engr. Osha further described the initiative as a round peg in a round hole and thanked the donor for their magnanimity in rewarding academic excellence and promoting computer literacy among students.

The Dean commended the facilitator of the programme and current Acting HOD of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Engr. Daniel Itam Hogan for a job well done and described him as a rare personality who has touched lives in many ways.

He said the event was attended by members of the University Community and members of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Universities Engineering Students' Association (NUESA).

 

The beneficiaries, according to him, include Heads of Departments, Faculty Examination Officers, and Desk officers, among others.

In the same vein, students who benefited are Okeke Godswill and Akpabio Silas (Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering), Udo Blessing and Arowopeonil Michael (Chemical Engineering), Emanuel Lemuel, Daniel Joseph and Omoaka Joseph (Civil and Environmental Engineering), Ogbonna Emanuel and Okpodighi Eno-Obong (Mechanical Engineering), and Vincent Destiny and Atasie Blessing (Petroleum Engineering).

The students, in their remarks, thanked the donors and promised to redouble their efforts towards achieving academic excellence in tandem with the mission and vision of the current University administration.
