The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) in collaboration with Calgary Zoo Foundation (CZ) has donated a set of high-tech virtual conferencing equipment to the University of Calabar.

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi in a statement during the presentation and installation of the equipment in the Institution's Council Chambers described the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) as one of the foremost environmental NGOs in the country that has been consistent.

Prof. Obi while appreciating the NCF said; "I am very appreciative and the University of Calabar is very appreciative of the NCF's gesture.

I am happy about the donation of a virtual conferencing gadget and other equipment donated to the Department of Environmental Education. I am very pleased with all of these."

 

Highlighting the importance of the equipment, she  said it will help in achieving virtual meetings while for the other equipment, she said they will also help students in the Department of Environmental Education.

"We are very happy and we thank you sincerely", she added.

The Vice Chancellor  used the occasion to seek more support, especially, for students engaged in exchange programmes in Preservation and Wildlife Conservation, even as she said participants in Cross River State needed to be encouraged for holding onto the NCF vision from the onset till date.

 

In an earlier remark, the Head of the Cross River Office Technical Programmes Department, Nigerian Conservation Foundation, Mr Emmanuel Owan said as part of the project and the agreement reached between NCF, its partners and the University of Calabar, two students have already started the programmes as agreed and again NCF is here to donate some items to the University.

"So, in consonance with the agreement, we are here to present virtual conferencing gadgets to enable us to communicate easily during our online meetings.

We have made some contributions to the Department of Environmental Education and we are also hoping that as we progress, we will have some students who will benefit from our scholarship," he said.

 

Also speaking, the Director, External Relations And Partnership, at University of Calabar, Prof. Peter Okafor stated that the NCF and its Partners in September last year signed a memorandum of understanding with the University, adding that, as part of the agreement, two students were awarded scholarship program for Masters and PhD and have kick-started the Programme.

 

Prof. Okafor  said the NCF was in the University to donate the virtual equipment for use in the institution.
