The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof Florence Obi has charged members of the committee on Ranking and Visibility of the institution to be dutiful, purposeful, and deliberate in executing the assignment given to them.

The Vice-Chancellor gave the charge while inaugurating the Committee on Ranking and Visibility of the University of Calabar in her office.

Prof Obi stated that the importance of constituting and inaugurating the committee cannot be overemphasized adding that, there is a need to improve the ranking of the University.

She expressed dismay at the current ranking of the institution adding that, the committee should step up their work and get it right to have positive results.

In her words,

"Let's see how we can improve our ranking to get a positive result and it should match our effort here. Almost everything we do here is digital. Let's upload our students' data to the website and constantly make updates to replace old information"

The University helmsman urged the committee to think about a strategy to ensure that the institution has the desired result that matches the effort put in by her administration.

She said that the University community has enormous confidence in the calibre of members of the committee and expressed the optimism that they will work in synergy for the growth of the institution.

Speaking, the Chairman of the Committee on Ranking and Visibility, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Linkages and Collaboration, Prof Peter Okafor thanked the Vice Chancellor for constituting and inaugurating the committee and commended her visionary leadership.

Prof Okafor assured that the committee will work hard to ensure that the University is more visible adding that, information emanating from the institution will be made visible through the Information/Public Relations Unit and the Directorate of Information Technology and Communication (ICT).

He further assured that the committee is willing and ready to work to produce results adding that there will be improvement in the  ranking of the institution.

Speaking also, a member of the committee and the former Director of ICT, Prof Anthony Akpan appealed to the management of the University to give their full support in ensuring that the  the committee’s mandate is delivered.

Prof Akpan stated that management will have the desired result when issues bordering on  the low ranking of the institution are dealt with holistically.

He assured  that the committee would look into all the issues while stating that the institutions’ website  must be harmonized with all her links.

The members of the committee include the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Angela Oyo-Ita, Director of Academic Planning, Prof Ajayi C. Omoogun, Director of Research and Development, Prof Bassey Igri Okon.

Other members include the Head of ICT, Dr Essien Eyo, the Head of External Relations, Dr Blessing Ntamu and Mr Joseph Molang as the Secretary.
