Message from the Head of Department

The Chemical Engineering discipline is often time misunderstood to be “just like chemistry” but with mathematics involved. This is far from true. Chemistry is just one aspect of Chemical engineering just as Physics, Mathematics, Economics, Management, and Biology all are.
In Chemical Engineering, the main motto has always been “making worth out of waste”. ANYWHERE there is need for innovation, production, or a process, there is need for a chemical engineer. The job opportunities are enormous as a chemical engineer is not just involved in making sure a process goes well, but also is in charge of conceptualizing and designing the process.
More recently, the chemical engineering discipline is applied across disciplines like medicine for e.g., cancer research, and research in atherosclerosis, stroke, and retinopathy, among others, using the principles of fluid dynamics and transport phenomena (core chemical engineering courses). It also incorporates artificial intelligence and machine learning in process designs and manufacturing. Furthermore, it is relevant in climate change research like carbon capture, pollution control and mitigation, hydrogen production and storage, clean and sustainable energy generation. Research and industries concerned with semi-conductor manufacturing, heat management, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, all need the services of a chemical engineer.
To churn out graduates that will be useful chemical engineers in today’s world and in the future, management must equip the department with resources and facilities that will ensure training in this direction.
To emphasize, a well-equipped simulation laboratory, along with qualified staffing, will go a long way to help the department in teaching and research.
